Guido Mocafico – Photography Inspired by 17th Century Dutch Master Still Life Painting
May 27, 2009
I’m a huge fan of Italian photographer Guido Mocafico. I especially like his still life photography that was inspired by Dutch Master paintings of the 17th Century. Take a look at Mr. Mocafico’s work below along with some of my favorite Dutch paintings that may have served as inspiration.

wow. those are amazing photographs. i’m thinking he knows chardin’s work pretty well, too. i found your site a few weeks ago, and i love checking in to see what great visuals you post.
Hi Patrick,
I didn’t even think of Chardin but you are absolutely right. These images are amazing…it’s hard to tell which ones are photographs and which are paintings when you see them next to each other.
Thanks so much for reading! I have a lot of great things to post over the next few weeks.

His pictures remind me of the work of Hiroshi Sugimoto. I think its most similar in his work of museum still life. both showing some someone elses work in there own light. arts interpretation of art.
funny, they turn the old ‘that painting looks like a photograph’ saying directly on its head.
I’m so glad I found these. Wow, incredible. I’m now a huge fan, too.

Fantastic! I was only familiar with Hiroshi Sugimoto’s work. I like how Mocafico echoes the spirit of the paintings, rather than out and out duplicates them.
